16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
“UNITE! Activism to end Violence Against Women and Girls”
On the 25th of November 2022, the chairman of the Akwa-Ibom State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee, Her Excellency, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, together with the members of the committee, chairmen of local governments, wives of Members of Parliament, Civil Society Organisations, Governmental Organisations, volunteers, youths and the people, flagged off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign at the Ibom Plaza, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a United Nations observance recognized annually from the 25th of November to the 10th of December (Human Rights Day), to drive awareness of the ills of violence in our communities and nations while seeking an end to all forms of violence.
The chairman of the committee seized the opportunity to readdress the issue of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and its psychological, physical, and emotional effects on the lives of men, women, girls, and boys, as it is a menace the state is determined to fight till the end.
She urged everyone who came out to show solidarity in the elimination of Gender-Based Violence to keep up and continue the fight even as they go about their daily lives.
Throughout the 16 days, the committee will visit 16 churches, 16 villages, and 16 markets, advocating and seeking their support to end Gender-Based Violence in the state.
It is time to end all forms of Violence in our communities and society, it is time to heal our women, men, girls, and boys. Let us stand together and end Violence!
